Handshake, PHSC’s exclusive online job board and career resource platform, connects PHSC students with employers and opportunities nationwide. Log in or create a free account to unlock the following benefits:

  • Search for full-time, part-time or internship opportunities
  • Create and upload a resume and career portfolio to make them available to employers
  • Access announcements and career advice documents, podcasts, videos and articles

How to Navigate Handshake at PHSC 

How to Set Up a Handshake Profile
  • Upload a professional photo (similar to a LinkedIn-style headshot).
  • Add a resume to autofill your profile with key information.
  • Write a short bio of one to two sentences in the “Summary” section
  • Ensure the profile is visible to employers
  • Navigate to Settings > Privacy > choose “Community” or “Employers” visibility
Set Career Interests

Handshake provides students with the right opportunities. To access them, students should:

  1. Navigate to “My Career Interests”
  2. Fill in the preferred job types, industries, locations and career goals
Searching for Jobs and Internships

To find out how opportunities can be tailored for students, follow these steps:

  1. Click “Jobs” in the top menu
  2. Use filters like location, industry, job type (full-time/part-time) and paid/unpaid status
  3. Tap “Apply” to view and submit applications
  4. To stay updated, toggle on “Get alerts for jobs like this” to receive important job information.
     
Engaging with Employers
  • Interested in a company? Click “Follow” to receive updates on their jobs and events
    • Go to Employers > search and click “Follow”
  • Use filters to discover new employers by:
    • Location
    • Industry
    • Company size
Customize Profile Visibility 

Students should follow the steps below to ensure that recruiters can find them:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy
  2. Choose “Community” (recommended) or “Employers” visibility
     
Set Up Notifications 

To stay informed without being overwhelmed, students should:

  • Go to Settings > Notification Preferences
  • Choose how they would like to be notified about job alerts, events and messages
